I was a big fan of the symmetrical lines this view offered - everything's flat, yet extends far into space. I also loved the sight of the fog along the bottom of the mountains, giving it a cool atmosphere. I probably would have moved to the left more so that the fade into white would be on its own on the right side.
Saturday
I still love clouds, and this ocean-wave-like formation caught my eye particularly. I wanted to capture the white in the bottom half and the blue sky in the upper half to give a nice even divide. I put this light pole in the middle to give it a stronger rhythm, and a contrasting foreground object. If I took this again, I would have cropped off the top horizontal flagpole.
Saturday
I placed this signal light in a spot where it would be as much in the middle as possible, and its strong orange color would stand out from the pale off-white background. Even though it's not turned on, this can still signal eyes toward it because of it's popping contrast. I'm sure a red circle would work better at that though.

Nice work Spencer! I really love your first two photos especially. The first has a lovely horizontal linear motif, and lands my eye right on the horizon line. I really feel like a truck or car is just waiting to enter frame. Love the clouds, and I agree with you as to moving the frame over a bit to let the white fade in from off camera right.
ReplyDeleteThe second photo feels really imposing in an awesome way. The tower feel big, and the diagonal lines made by the cross bars contrasts nicely with the lines from the clouds, giving everything a quality of swooping upwards. Love it!
The last one is the least interesting, although it seems to have purpose behind it. I think that the shadow is actually taking away from the bull's eye effect you're going for. The line on frame right throws off the balance of the image as well. And the color doesn't pop as much as it could were the background a cleaner white. But in terms of shape, you're nailing the contrast, and regardless of all the other stuff, my eye still goes right to the center of the frame. It just wants to jump to the line on frame right right afterwards.
Thanks for sharing your photos Spencer! Some really fun stuff. :)
