Wednesday
I took this shot in one of the Fine Arts Center halls and thought about the endless amount of lockers on campus, even in the deepest halls in the lowest levels of the buildings. The repetition off the sides and above helps build the illusion of the lockers extending off, even when we don't literally see down the hall. I wish I got more lockers in the frame so that the illusion would be clearer.
Friday
The rhythm in this shot is slightly intense because of the diagonal line created by the lights, as well as the dim decorations in front of them. It also has an empty space around them in darkness, helping the center stay accented. The repetition feels restricted, since the line of lights clearly stops at four.
Friday
This intense rhythm of jumbled lines contrasts with the elegant curves and straights behind them. It's like a precious edifice draped in fog or a curtain (this was a Halloween party in an LDS stake center). I could see a lot of things going on in this shot, and I think it's composited very well.

Spencer,
ReplyDeleteYour first photo deals a lot with strong, harsh lines that usually end (in terms of the lockers themselves). In particular, I like the three horizontal lines that repeat on every locker. The rhythm of the lockers, however, do feel like they are never ending. I think this creates a rather irregular pattern of rhythms. Small note, I wish it was tilted a tad to the right for perfect balance.
Your second photo is really awesome, partly because I don't no what it is. I think your use of space in this photo does something for the restricted rhythm, like you said. The empty space creates an isolated feeling that consequently says something about the object.
Your third photo has some really cool designs being created from the weavings of this web. The light shining on the web gives a slight backlight so we can see the details, which works really nicely. Even though I like how it looks now, it might have been interesting to see if you could take one without seeing the window in the background, because it does distract a little.
Good job!
The first photo does a great job at using rhythm to make stability and structure. The strong lines and very flat image mame me feel like there's nothing more to see. Everything is safe. The even tone through the photo also gives a sense of calm. Thibgs aren't exciting, but they are safe.
ReplyDeleteI really love how you use light in the second photo. I think the rhythm of light makes a very cool diagonal that leads your eye through the line, and they you sorry of notice the stuff the light is illuminating. I think that is really cool. I can't tell what the stuff is because I'm on my phone, but I love the air of mystery it adds.
I think the third photo is awesome. It's interesting that you used texture as the rhythm in this photo. It makes a chaotic and crazy feeling because of all the lines. It makes it feel even more crazy because you can't quite see everything behind it as coeaelybas you want. Very cool photo.
